The 400 Meter Is A Sprint!

Tony Holler

Founder of the "Feed The Cats" training philosophy, Coach Holler has added the 400m to his program of speed training. This interview explains how he trains the energy systems necessary in the 400m, but still uses speed vs traditional speed endurance workouts.

Tony Holler has set the sprint training world on its ear with his "Feed the Cats" training concept. As a retired chemistry teacher & currently in his 40+ years of high school coaching, Holler has applied his theories to various events from the 100m-400m along with the hurdles. He has been approached by team sports and international coaches on how his program would fit their teams too. He is also a member of the Illinois Track Coaches Hall of Fame.

Al Schmidt

During his 40 + year coaching career, Coach Schmidt successfully used these strategies to introduce the steeplechase to athletes of all levels. Hear his advice of how to add this event to your program.

Starting his coaching career at U of Missouri-St. Louis and with stops at St. Louis University, Kansas U, Florida State, he stayed at Mississippi State for 27 years as Director of TF. During his time at FSU, he helped assistant coach the team to two NCAA team titles. At MSU, he led the Bulldogs to 4 individual NCAA champs earning 39 All-American awards. Schmidt has been very active in USA Track & Field Coaches Education and had over 200 student-athletes earn All-SEC All American Academic Awards.

Curtis Thompson has been climbing up the World Athletic Rankings in the javelin and is the current Pan Am Games Champion. Thompson explains how to train for the javelin year round.

Curtis Thompson is ranked the #1 javelin thrower in the USA in 2023. He's won the 2023 Pan American Games along with NCAA, USATF, and USA Olympic Trials titles. His leading mark of 287'8" (87.70 m) is close to 95 yards! Thompson has won three USA National Championships & is World ranked in the top 10. He's a grad of Mississippi State.

When you have a track named after you, do you retire & rest on your past? Coach Lance Harter doesn't! Recently retired from NCAA coaching, he has a professional group of post-collegiate distance runners to train for the next level. Harter's squads have won 7 NCAA team titles & 45 conference awards. Coming from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Harter set a high standard there winning 10 Coach of the Year awards & 19 Division II National team titles. Mike Holloway

Coach Holloway coaches some of the top hurdlers & sprinters in the world. He explains how to transition a young hurdler to the college event. His advice can be used on athletes of all ages/abilities.

Coach "Mouse" Holloway, U of Florida, has led his squads to 13 NCAA team titles and received 14 USTFCCCA Coach of the Year awards. Athletes he has coached have won 19 Olympic medals & 84 individual NCAA championship events. He was the 2020 Head Men's Olympic Coach and on numerous Team USA staffs prior to that selection. Currently, he's coaching Olympic hurdler Grant Holloway (no relation), Olympic sprinter Erriyon Knighton, and coordinates Heptathlete Anna Hall's training program along with many other prospective Team USA members.
