Travis Geopfert

Coach Geopfert has developed an outstanding group of jumpers. He excels in creating some of the best horizontal & vertical jumpers in the world. Hear how he prepares the athletes he works with for outstanding marks throughout the season.

Coach Travis Geopfert has coached 5 Olympians & 25 World Championship team members. He's trained 19 NCAA individual champions during his 22 year career at Central Missouri State, Northern Iowa, U of Tennessee, & 2 stops at the U of Arkansas. He's been selected 5 times as the National Assistant Coach of the Year by USTFCCCA. He was just named the 2024 South Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year.

Geopfert also supervises a pro group of athletes, Trackwired TC, featuring Sandy Morris, Tara Davis-Woodall, Hunter Woodall, Carey McLeod, Wayne Pinnock, & Darren Sullivan. He has trained 2 Bowerman winners, Jaydon Hibbert & Jarrion Lawson.

Bonnie Edmondson

Dr. Edmondson was a pioneer in the hammer for women. She was a 2 - time USA champion in the early 90's. Through USATF Development she was a leader in getting the event added to the international program.

Bonnie Edmondson led the campaign to have the women's hammer added to the international events in the 1990's. She was a 2-time National Champion and participated in the 96 Olympic Trials while the event was in exhibition status. After her competitive career, she turned to coaching men's & women's throws at Trinity College in Connecticut. She also is a retired Professor of School Health Education at Southern Connecticut State and is active in Coaches Education. She served as Team USA Head Coach for the 2024 Indoor World Championships and was on the 2016 USA Olympic staff.

Moving From the 300 Hurdles To the 400 Hurdles Isn't Easy

Joanna Hayes

Most states run the 300 hurdle race during the high school season and then expect athletes to transfer to the 400 hurdle race in summer meets. Coach Hayes explains how easy & yet, hard the transition is.

Olympic Gold Medalist Joanna Hayes has transferred her athletic excellence into coaching success over her career. Hayes has coached at both USC & UCLA over the past 10 years. She earned the 2024 & 2023 West Regional Men's Coach of the Year honors. Co-coaching with Quincy Watts, Hayes is directing the career of 400m hurdler, Rai Benjamin. She also coached Sydney McLaughlin when she first become a pro athlete and co-coached with Caryl Smith-Gilbert the hurdling career of Anna Cockrell at USC.

Katie Rees

Many high school distance runners switch events in the summer meets. Here are some training tips to help athletes make this transition from Adelphi Head Coach Katie Rees.

Coach Rees earned many All-East Coast Conference and All-Northeast selections during her undergrad career as a student-athlete at Adelphi U. After graduation, she became an assistant coach for the track & field and cross country teams and never left. As Head Coach & Assistant Athletic Director for the past 14 years, Rees has led the teams as the athletes have rewritten the Adelphi record books. The women's team earned runner-up status in the 2024 NE-10 indoor conference meet. She also has been active in the USTFCCCA Women's Programs.

A Coach's View Of Javelin Techniques

Tom Pukstys

Founder/Coach of the USA Javelin Project, Coach Pukstys is a former Olympian & World Championship member of Team USA. He hosts javelin clinics all over the USA & World for javelin thrower of all levels.

When you say javelin, you think of Coach Tom Pukstys as an athlete & as a coach. He has created a javelin training center out of Samford University in Alabama. As a javelin thrower, Pukstys ruled the USA scene winning six National titles and made the 1992 & 1996 USA Olympic squads. He made the javelin finals in the 92 Games. He set the American Record of 285'10" (87.12m) in 1997. After retiring, he turned to coaching and has been very active in USATF javelin development for men & women while also serving on the 2012 USA Olympic staff. He runs javelin clinics in the USA and takes throwers to training camps in Finland.

Ryan Banta

Long time high school coach, Ryan Banta knows how to prepare student athletes to fit the 5-6 month high school season. He shares how he gets his squads ready in poor weather and when to taper/peak training to maximize performances.

Coach Ryan Banta's teams have rewritten the record books at Parkway Central High in Missouri. Athletes he's coached have set over 100 new school standards. He's developed an effective training system to get the students into shape before the season and then maximize their performances during the year. His peers named him Coach of the Year in 2021 & 2022. Author of "The Sprinter's Compendium," he has Level 2 USATF status in Sprints, Hurdles, Relays, & Endurance.
